Edge: IE Mode for SharePoint

Topic

Internet Explorer Mode for SharePoint

Environment (Products involved such as e.g. hardware, software, network)

Microsoft Edge Browser, SharePoint, and Computer

Resolution or Steps

  1. Go to the URL edge://settings/defaultBrowser and set Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode to Allow.

“Microsoft Edge settings page under ‘Internet Explorer compatibility.’ A section outlined in red contains two settings: ‘Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode,’ which is set to ‘Allow,’ and ‘Internet Explorer mode pages,’ with an ‘Add’ button beside it and text stating that no pages have been added to the list.”
    2. When this setting is enabled, users can reload a site in Internet Explorer Mode by selecting Settings and more (the ellipses icon ...) > Reload in Internet Explorer mode. Users can also select Reload tab in Internet Explorer mode when they right-click on a tab or choose Open link in new Internet Explorer mode tab when they right-click on a link.

  2. “Microsoft Edge menu expanded from the three‑dot icon. The menu lists options including New tab, New window, New InPrivate window, Zoom controls, Favorites, Collections, History, Downloads, Apps, Extensions, Print, Web capture, Share, Find on page, Read aloud, and More tools. Near the bottom, the option ‘Reload in Internet Explorer mode’ is outlined with a red box. Below are Settings, Help and feedback, and Close Microsoft Edge.”
    3. The Reload in Internet Explorer mode icon can be pinned to the toolbar. The toolbar button allows users to easily enter and exit Internet Explorer Mode and can be managed through the edge://settings/appearance URL.

“A row of toolbar icons in Microsoft Edge. From left to right: a star icon, add‑tab icon, history icon, download icon, and several other action icons. One icon, outlined with a red box, shows a small window with the Internet Explorer ‘e’ logo, indicating Internet Explorer mode.”

    4. You may also want to enable to Open the page in Internet Explorer mode next time.

“A dialog box in Microsoft Edge displays the message ‘This page is open in Internet Explorer mode.’ Text below explains that most pages work better in Microsoft Edge and recommends leaving IE mode after finishing. Options are shown with toggles: ‘Open this page in Compatibility view’ and ‘Open this page in Internet Explorer mode next time.’ Below the toggles are two buttons: ‘Manage’ and ‘Done.’ At the bottom, additional details list: ‘Compatibility Mode: IE11,’ ‘Protected Mode: On,’ and ‘Zone: Internet.’”
