How to run Windows Updates

Topic

How to run Window Updates when my touch screen, mouse pad, camera and other peripherals on my laptop are not working correctly.

Environment (Products involved such as e.g. hardware, software, network)

PC, Windows

Resolution or Steps

When HTC pushes out the monthly updates, it doesn’t push out all of the updated drivers (Software to make the peripherals work) that Microsoft puts out there.  Going in and manually clicking on the Windows Updates will download all the missing drivers that HTC may not have included in our monthly updates.

1.  Click on the Search Icon in the lower left-hand corner of your Taskbar.

2.  Start typing Update until you see “Check for updates”

3.  Click on Check for updates

4.  When the Windows Update screen opens, click on the link Check online for updates from Microsoft Update

Note: Do Not “Download and Install” the Feature update to Windows 10, Version 20H2 (Example)

(number determined by your current version to go to the next version)

5.  Once you click on the link, it will start downloading the updates that you don’t currently have.  It is best to keep your computer plugged in.

6.  When the updates are done, you will need to restart your computer.

Note: If you have a slower Internet connection, it is best to do this after you are done with your daily work.
